Creating a Keyword Research Strategy
Do you know what keyword research is? Also, do you know how to create a keyword research strategy for your business’s marketing efforts?
In this podcast episode, we discuss creating a keyword research strategy. We are giving you the tools to start this important process today.
What is a keyword research strategy?
Keyword research is “finding and researching the search terms people enter into search engines.” By including short and long-tailed keywords, these terms will help your audience find the content you write and the services and/or products you promote. Researching specific terms is important because it increases your business’s online visibility and proves relevancy to Google.
You can research keywords for websites, blogs, Pay-per-Click advertisements, social media, and other search engines like YouTube.
Various tools can be used to find keywords, including Google’s Keyword Planner and Trends, Answer the Public, Keywords Everywhere, and many more. While these tools are helpful, it is important to decipher which terms are actual keywords or negative keywords.
Negative keywords help search engines understand the content that shouldn’t appear in your searches. For example, if you are a company that specializes in cakes but not cupcakes, your negative keyword would be cup. This negative keyword will help eliminate any cupcake search results to ensure your content comes as close as possible to the front of the search results.
Best Practices
- Build ideas and write as you would if you are searching for something particular
- Take your time – results don’t happen immediately. Continue to build your list constantly
- When creating advertisements, Google recommends 10-20 keywords per ad group
