There’s something about it that is just so relaxing — the smell of the ground in the spring, the first vegetable in the summer, and the mix of fallen leaves in the fall.

It’s frustrating at times for sure. The rabbits and the deer that steal some of the best plants are alternatively cursed and swooned over. The seeds that never really take off are frustrating. But if you have the right space, some time, the best garden supplies and a good attitude, working in the garden might be one of your favorite pastimes.

Its easy to fall into a habit, doing the same familiar things repeatedly. Its the safeness of knowing can do whatever it is and do it with good results. The disadvantage of this is you can get into a routine that becomes boring and you wind up thinking about why it is that you’re doing what you always do.

This is something that can happen a lot with rose quilt designs, you can wind up making numerous quilts that end up looking the same and finally lose motivation to do another one. Well, now’s the time to break that cycle and the simplest way to do that’s by working with with a fresh design, so here’s a few:

Chequered Roses Pattern

Just like a patchwork style quilt, a checkered rose pattern is something that’s not frequently done with roses. So why not incorporate a couple into the squares and add a a touch of colour and style to your next one?

Linking Vines Pattern

This one will take a some forward planning. Get some paper and draw out a design for your vines to follow, ensuring that they don’t bunch up in one particular place. Then, when you have something you like, add a peppering of roses!

Wreath of Roses

Why should Xmas have all the fun with wreaths? A wreath of roses makes a great centrepiece for a rose quilt and has a fresh and inviting appeal that’s unbeatable!

Pick two or three colours to make something extra special.

Border of Roses

You don’t always have to cover each square inch of a rose quilt with flowers. In fact , you can get an effective and minimalist effect by stitching borders of roses round the edges of the quilt. It looks fantastic and really stands out!

So there you have it, 4 great new designs to push you out of the same of rose quilt cycle!

Interested in more rose quilt design ideas? Then head on over to Jane Green’s how to make a patchwork quilt site now!

There are many home improvement projects that you can carry out to make your home a more comfortable space and to add to its value as property. These home improvement projects include remodeling the basement, kitchen, and bathrooms, and painting both the exteriors and interiors regularly.

Whenever most people think of home improvement projects, they think in terms of doing up the living areas, such as the bedrooms, drawing room, and dining room. However, there is just so much that you can do in a bedroom-maybe add a comfortable bed, a reading lamp, a table or ceiling fan, a bookshelf, and a study table. Most people seldom entertain formally, so areas such as the drawing room and dining room seldom get used. You can, however, put in some comfortable sofas, chairs, end tables, and coffee tables, and put in an expandable dining table, chairs, and breakfront in the dining room. You are most likely to use your kitchen as an area to not only prepare and cook food, and wash utensils and laundry, but also to serve family meals and entertain informally.

You can add electric floor warming systems for kitchens, bathrooms, and basements to make these areas of your home more comfortable. If you waterproof and ventilate your basement and use glass blocks to let in natural light, you can use it as a gym, study, home office, or home entertainment room. You will need to put in an intercom system so that you can not only make and receive calls in the basement, but also keep in touch with other family members.

To make your kitchen a visually appealing space, you can add countertops that complement or match the cabinetry, floor, or walls. Your countertops could be of granite, marble, wood, or stainless steel. To bring in more light into the kitchen, you can place a large ceiling fixture in the center of the kitchen, with track lights near the sink, range, and countertops. You can also use warm colors for the kitchen walls and floor, add recessed lights and dimmers, and highlight your cabinets. You can use tiles, laminates, and hardwoods as flooring. Your cabinets can complement or match the colors used in the walls and flooring. You can even use stained glass panels for kitchen cabinets.

To make your bathroom a truly relaxing space, you can always add a steam shower, a body spa, or a comfortable bathtub where you can soak for hours and allow the tensions of the day to flow away from you. See that your bathroom is well-lit. If you are interested in chromatherapy, you will find several products, such as bathtubs, shower systems, and sinks, which feature chromatherapy options. You can also install multiple showerheads and a waterfall in the bathroom to get a spa-like experience. You can also include a large bathtub, fog-free mirrors, and a towel warmer for more comfort. The tiles and walls in your bathroom should be in warm colors. You can also put plants and pictures in the bathroom to give a lived-in feel, and replace the sink sunk in a counter top with a pedestal sink. Nowadays, sinks come in a variety of materials, such as glass, stainless steel, stone, and copper-you can select a material that suits you. Your vanity cabinet could be of stone, wood, or glass. You can select from a wide variety of faucets, including single-hole and single-lever, widespread, centerset, and wall-mounted faucets.

Anyone interested in planting their own vegetables as a means to add readily accessible greens to their diet should try growing spinach. This vegetable provides a great source of vitamins as well as calcium and iron. The varieties of this vegetable vary in size, color and texture. Certain times of the year are ideal for production of this leafy green. This tasty vegetable is not hard to grow as long as you nurture the soil.

Spinach that has dark green leaves that are crinkled and crisp are referred to as savoyed or semi-savoyed type. This type is ideal for growing during the colder months of the year. Another variety of this vegetable is smooth-leafed. This is characterized by a lighter shade leaf that grows vertically and is easy to wash. This type grows quickly and can be picked and eaten before it reaches full size.

Placing seeds in a protective box outside or inside during the winter months is ideal. If you choose to plant in the fall you should do so before the first frost occurs. Remembering that this vegetable grows quickly, you’ll need to plant seeds about every three weeks. Because the climate and the soil need to be in good condition for this vegetable to grow, you should avoid planting seeds during the summer months.

For best results soil should be loosened and mixed with soybean and alfalfa meal. Growth is more likely to occur if seeds are planted one half inch into the ground and approximately two inches in distance from each other. Because the leaves of this vegetable can spread out, space rows about eight inches apart.

To store and harvest this vegetable you can take off individual leaves to be used for cooking about six weeks after planting. Be sure to leave the foundation of the vegetable in tact so that it does not prevent future growth. Once the stem of the plant becomes tall enough, which usually occurs in the springtime, you can uproot the plant from the ground.

To avoid rodents that can kill a crop, keep the vegetables evenly spaced. Slugs are damaging too and typically live where mulch is present. Therefore, be sure to limit mulch where seeds are going to be planted. Plants that demonstrate older or yellow leaves should be uprooted as they have the potential of transmitting viral diseases to the others.

Planting seeds regularly after plucking leaves is optimal if you want to continue to grow this vegetable. An advantage of spinach is that it does grow rapidly so you can enjoy its sweet flavor not too long after planting the seeds.

Although relatively easy to harvest, growing spinach takes special care and consideration. There are many recipes you can create using this vegetable. Its sweet flavor and essential nutrients provide a tasteful, healthy snack or addition to a meal. Experimentation with different varieties as well as recipes will help you find the best way to use this vegetable.

If you would like to have a beautiful garden this year, without all of the usual hard work, there is a way to do this. Would you like to grow a flower garden this year? You can do this with a little planning and also have a vegetable garden on the side. What you need to be able to do is to grow plants that will take the least amount of effort possible. Gardening has never been easier, as long as you implement these three simple tips.

However, as one carefully prepares and makes use of the right instruments, they will realize that it isn’t too difficult to make a flower bed that is beautiful. Then, maintaining a great looking flower bed won’t require a ton of work you will see, if you get it right.

Tree pruning, though very necessary, is a tedious and sometimes difficult activity to accomplish. If you do have a lot of fruit trees, pruning can take a large amount of time. Sometimes this could be to limit their growth, in the case of larger trees or hedge plants. To make sure your fruit trees continue to produce fruit regularly, pruning is often recommended. Plants that grow flowers are the same, in that pruning will actually help them produce much more beautiful flowers. Prime examples of how this works is doing this to rose plants each year. Anyone can learn how to do this, and it is very easy to accomplish. Pruning any tree or plant requires a little background knowledge in regard to when you should actually do this to not harm what you are cutting.

A very popular choice in many gardens is to use seasonal plants to enhance its appearance. Seasonal plants have one minor drawback which is their short lifespan which can lead to constant replanting throughout the year. A good example of this is planting annual flowers in garden beds. Although very pretty during the spring and summer, these flowers are very sensitive to cold and therefore must be removed before the first frost. Likewise, certain vegetables can only grow at certain times of the year. The easiest way to grow your seasonal vegetables successfully is to make sure you plant them at the right time of year.

Gardening is not that hard to do, especially if you use a few of the tips that we have provided. By choosing plants that will complement each other with biannual rotations, and adding compost and fertilizer to your soil, your garden should turn out just right. Using these tips, you should have a plentiful and beautiful garden every time that you plant one.

Naturally, there are numerous items that can help you with your garden. When you’re moving all your flowers and plants around, keeping them chilled can keep all of them more fresh.

For thousands of years, mankind have sought to perfect the cultivation of various food sources. With fruits and vegetables, many have experienced large amounts of hindrance due to the lack of information and knowledge. With recent technological advancements, agriculture is currently being produced on a mass scale. On the other hand, various individuals worldwide, have experienced enumerable success through the the harvesting of items, such as growing parsnips, themselves.

Let’s take a look at how to grow quality parsnips to full potential. These plants are delicate, as full flavor is not present unless the tips are brought to near freezing temperatures. With this in mind, many consider them to be winter vegetables.

Parsnips are proven source of fiber, potassium, carbohydrates, vitamin c, calcium and a large variety of additional nutrients and vitamins. They are versatile and can be harvested in the winter or spring, although winter harvesting is highly recommended. Various farmers have been successful in winter harvesting and experts state that if choosing to harvest during the spring, you should harvest before seed stalks and new tops sprout.

Preparation is vital key to the productivity of the plant. In order to adequately prepare, soil must be tilled properly. This can be done via a variety of methods but constant overturning is recommended. Also, amendments such as compost and fertilization are an added bonus. Experts also recommend you plant seeds that are no more than one years old. Furthermore, you should plant your seeds in warm soil.

Unfortunately, rates of germination for this plant are typically low. Understanding this, you should plant three seeds at a time at a depth of about an half inch. Furthermore, the germination process may take 20 days to finish. By turning or rolling soil lightly, you may help the rate of germination.

To verify germination success, look for seedlings to appear. Afterwards, try to thin the seedlings to about three inches spacing. Furthermore, if planting by rows, it is recommended that they be placed more than 20 inches apart. On the other hand, if planting seedlings, it is recommended that they placed at larger distances. Fully sunned and low shaded area’s are highly recommended. In addition, highly fertile soil is highly beneficial. Low quality can often lead to stunted growth and a variety of unhealthy harvesting factors. Adding a compost to the soil before planting is also great.

When rainfall is scarce, farmers are advised to water crops once weekly. This can help aide in the amount of moisture the crop receives. Also, wood chips and straw should be added. This has proven to help the crop retain moisture. Weeds are a constant problem for most. In these situations, fast removal is required. Furthermore, harvest should take place at near freezing temperatures.

Harvest after you’ve had at least three consecutive weeks of near freezing temperatures. Clip the remaining stalks after harvest for preservation until your cook them.

Artificial turf is a man made substitute to natural grass and is now being used worldwide in order to cut down on the daily upkeep costs and water use associated with natural grass. True, there is not any substitute for natural grass if all-natural is your preference.

With the popularity of its usage, artificial grass has been continually improved to the point that it's often mistaken for the real thing. In a few cases, it looks even better.

3 Major Reasons in Favor of Artificial Grass

First and most important, it's the practical application of artificial turf that makes it convenient to use for San Diego landscaping projects. Insufficient sunlight and unavailability of acceptable water resources can damage natural grass repeatedly until it becomes a constant source of frustration for you. So why not be wise and incorporate artificial turf in your San Diego landscape designs and avoid all the expense and trouble?

If outdoor sports is common in your personal life and you spend considerable time in your yard playing with your children, then you need to be aware of the wear and tear your natural grass due to the increased activity. Torn out patches of grass and scattered pieces of mud throughout the yard do not look good when the guests come over. All this can be avoided by simply using artificial grass rather than natural grass.

Synthetic grass isn't just economical and feasible, but also environmentally safe. It takes great devotion to maintain a good-looking lawn, but this devotion requires regular cutting of the grass, which for most isn’t the fun part of having a professionally maintained grass. Moreover, the commonly used gas-powered lawn mowers pollute the environment at the same time you are cutting the grass. Gas emissions from grass mowers have reached a stupefying 17 million gallons of gas emitted per year, according to a report by the E.P.A. (Environmental Protection Agency) .Thus, when you're incorporating artificial grass into your gardens and/or office gardens, you aren't only saving on maintenance, but are also contributing to a clean environment as well.

 Suggestions for Purchasing Artificial Turf

Are you looking to buy artificial grass? The following are four straightforward tenets to help buy synthetic turf:

1. Prior to buying synthetic turf, first make-up your mind regarding the use of man made grass. Know if it’s for you. This will help to reduce your options.
2. Measure the area of synthetic turf you want. Costs for artificial grass are based primarily on a per-unit basis.
3. Now that you know how much synthetic turf you need, you can look for contractors that sell turf and compare their costs. Infill is a term used for the rubber granules that keep your synthetic turf level, but using it costs more and therefore, should be considered in advance.
4. Don’t just select the company you are going to buy the artificial grass from on price alone. Explore different offers that involve seldom needed maintenance or shipping costs.

It’s a big decision, but one that can make you happy in the long run. With enough research, your choice will become clear soon enough.

We all love our outdoor spaces. We love to be surrounded by the fresh air and the beauty that Mother Nature can provide when she’s shown the proper respect and attention. For those who are truly dedicated to promoting and supplementing Mother Nature’s inherent gifts (also known as the over-enthusiastic gardener), it can be very easy to take landscaping and horticulture a little too far. How far is too far, after all? When does a lovely yard, suitable for entertaining and relaxing, become an overly showy, overly-designed hothouse? The line between tasteful and tacky is thin, and very easy to cross if you aren’t careful.

Every green thumb deserves its exercise, but moderation is key. The same goes with less natural additions like water features, paths and paving stones and the seemingly inescapable garden gnome. While we all appreciate his irreverent little smile, a whole army of ceramic gnomes can be downright creepy. Don’t be afraid to indulge your creative impulses, but take the time to step back and evaluate the changes and additions you’ve made. If all else fails, ask the opinion of a friend or neighbor. If they give you the, “You’ve got to be kidding” face, it may be time to tone down the foliage and special features.

It can be easy to overdo landscaping simply with your choice of plants. While exotic flowers can be lovely, they can be challenging to maintain, and can look very out of place in some situations. Similarly, large-leaf plants and bushes can overwhelm even a spacious yard, eating up space that could be used for outdoor activities or smaller, less intrusive foliage. Special care should be taken when adding trees or climbing plants as well. Remember that this greenery can grow rapidly, taking over a yard and turning what should be a cultivated space into a tangled mess. If it goes unchecked, it can also spread into neighboring yards, leading to unwelcome hostility and unplanned maintenance or removal.
Keep in mind that natural spaces are meant to look, well, natural. While adding special features to your yard or garden can add charm and a little touch of luxury, consider your additions carefully before jumping into a project. Features that are too large or too complicated can detract from the natural appeal of a yard, making it seem busy or overcrowded, defeating the purpose of building a backyard retreat. Planting a good variety of plant life can add color and energy to a garden, but limit the number of exotic colors and designs used in a single space.

Over-cultivating, over-decorating and under-planning can all lead to landscaping disasters. Being enthusiastic about your yard or garden can be a good thing, but it must be tempered with careful planning and responsible maintenance. While a bland, boring yard can be uninviting and even off-putting, an over-done space can seem intimidating and suffocating. Even the most well-intentioned gardener can overdo it if they carried away.

Yesterday I received a mail from an individual who had an engaging problem and I would like to share it with you as you may of encountered the very same thing. His e-mail was this:

We built a natural gas fire pit and put a lot of colored glass chips in it. It works great, looks amazing but is worthless for roasting marshmallows :

It seems like an open flame just lights the marshmallows … We need embers. But I do not really wish to put wood in and cope with the ashes.

Proposals?

Thanks!

We here at Lava Rocks for Fire Pits.com never had a question or problem of this nature presented to us, but on reflexion and talking about it with our staff this was our answer to this problem. We had seen it done before but only by two folk.

our return email went as follows:

Your e-mail was interesting, we had not ever heard about this kind of problem before.

Glass chips make for a pretty fire, one where you would not want to mess it up with food drippings like marshmallows or hotdogs for example. And glass will not hold heat very well; or reflect glowing heat too.

Lava rock appears to get only better with age due to the carbon build up caused from food burn to a “carbon crisp” (and lava rock hides these crumbs as the rock isn’t so uniform in size and colour and is permeable). The heat built up in the lava rock with natural gas or propane pumps out better for roasting those party favourites because of the thin walls of the lava rocks ‘ micro caves, occasionally turning them growing red (so creating ember like effects).

It all reduces down to a couple things you need to decide for yourself, and only you can answer them. Are you wanting a pretty fire pit or a handy fun fire pit? Or better why not both?

I’ve seen both functions built into the same fire pit.

In this one case we have seen, they put a double gas ring in the pit with one rings being larger in diameter than the other. And depending on your taste and style you are trying for, they put colored glass chips in the middle over the littler gas ring and lava rock on the outside over the larger diameter gas ring.

What this did was sort of cool. When these folks wanted just pretty flames they turned on the center gas ring which was under the glass chips; but when they needed a fun roasting flame they would switch on the bigger outside ring, the one under the lava rock.

This might be something to contemplate.

I’m wishing you all the best and have a good time with this.

Lee

Building a rear yard fire pit is fun and still can be very useful. There is no need to sacrifice one for the other when you may have both. I am hoping this article allows you to see you can make a extraordinarily unique and fun fire pit for you own back garden. Its something new to contemplate.
